Questions
Why do you charge for teardown?
Most causes of jumping out of gear are inside the case: worn dogs, bent shift forks or bad bearings. We have to open it to see which parts are needed and give you a real price.
Is it always a rebuild?
No. Some shifting problems are a clutch adjustment, linkage or shifter issue. That's why we check those first for $125.
What if I don't want the rebuild after teardown?
That's your call. Putting it back together is quoted separately, so you know the cost either way.
